The Dave Pippin Project

Hello friends! We created The Dave Pippin Project to keep the spirit of Dave in our lives. So, we are asking the Dave community to do things that Dave would have loved and share it with the community here by posting pictures with a short story. So get out there and play Kubb, build a boat, plant a vegetable garden, polka dance, forage for mushrooms, go hiking, listen to unusual music, throw an elaborate dinner party for an obscure holiday, or anything else that is in the spirit of Dave.

Live Music in Boston

We were walking by a restaurant in Boston that has live music. On this day, an Irish band was playing and we thought about how much Dave would love it. So we went in and enjoyed the music in honor of Dave 🙂

Garden guest

Hey Dave, When I heard the news of your admission back into the hospital and that you had been ventilated, I went out to my garden and stood there, soaking in the growing things, listening to the buzzing of bees and the twittering of birds. I sent those healing nature vibrations to you. I put my hands in the earth and started weeding. As I weeded, I thought of last year’s Bastille day dinner party. I thought of your laugh and the pleasure you had playing bocci ball in the yard. I looked to my right and spotted a nearly perfect empty sparrow egg shell. I continued working through my garden, thinking of you and hoping that this latest health scare would pass. As I looked to my parsley, I noticed someone had been munching on it. Within the plant were two black swallowtail caterpillars. I left them to their business. My friend, when I heard of your passing, I went out to the garden again to wish you peace. The caterpillars have moved on, I’m hoping their transformation to butterflies represents your transformation back to our universal energy. You will be missed.

Rescuing abandoned canoe on St croix river

Hey bud, went paddling with some friends on the st croix river between northern WI and MN this past weekend. Wasn’t sure if I was still going to be up for going after the news of your passing, but waking up the morning of departure this seemed like exactly the thing you’d encourage me to do. On day 2 our crew came upon an abandoned canoe full of gear apart from life jackets. Was eerie not knowing what had happened, but the rest of the day was spent playing detective until we tracked down the returned the boat to the owners. Turns out there had been an emergency evacuation the night prior to us finding this boat. Everyone was okay but they thought the boat and gear were total goners! Lest we get in touch and what we thought was going to be a relaxing paddling day turned into quite the river trip. Plus black bear encounter and rapids! Thinking of you. Am
